Turkey is preparing to remove 2,000 citizens from Lebanon

Turkey is preparing to evacuate 2,000 of its citizens and their relatives from Lebanon by sea today, as the Turkish ambassador in Beirut announced today. A Turkish diplomatic source told AFP that two ships carrying the Turkish nationals are expected tomorrow morning at the port of Mersin in southern Turkey. The two ships of the Turkish navy were sailing this morning towards the Lebanese capital, whose southern suburbs suffered new Israeli bombardments overnight. “These ships with a capacity of about 2,000 people will be ready to transport the citizens who requested it to the port of Mersin,” on Turkey’s southern coast, Ambassador Ali Baris Ulusoy told state broadcaster TRT Haber. “We are the first and the only ones to conduct an evacuation operation of this scale since the beginning of the conflict in Lebanon,” he said.
