Her foreign minister Turkey Hakan Fidan said tonight that the visit of the American president Joe Biden in the Israelthis week, amounted to a US endorsement of the destruction of Gaza and it was “marked by history”.
Speaking on public broadcaster TRT Haber, Fidan said Israel had “changed the narrative” about its involvement in Tuesday’s Gaza hospital blast. He also expressed hope that tomorrow’s meeting in Cairo would lead to an agreement that would stop Israel’s attack.
“Certainly, that Biden came over there under these circumstances and found himself in a position, in a sense, to approve the destruction in Gaza, has been noted by history. To many this is not a surprise but it creates a perception that can lead to many different outcomes for America,” he said.
Fidan also said that Turkey is proposing a system of guarantees to its counterparts to find a sustainable solution to the conflict. Turkey is ready to act as a guarantor for the Palestinian side, he added, calling on other countries in the region to join this system.
