A disoriented brown bear, believed to be intoxicated after consuming a large amount of hallucinogenic honey (mad honey), was rescued today in the northwestern province of Duzze Turkey.
In images that have seen the light of day, the bear stumbling, making unusual noises and lying on her stomach in the back of a truck after people they rescued the visibly weakened animal from the forest.
Mad honey, or “deli bal” in Turkish, is one type of honey from rhododendron that may have hallucinogenic effects.
The bear was taken to a veterinarian, where it received treatment and will likely be released back into the wild in the coming days, local authorities said, adding that the animal is in good condition.
The Ministry of Agriculture invited Turks on Twitter to suggest a name for the bear.
Even a bear can’t handle mad honey.
This poor thing in Düzce (northern Turkey) ate up honey from the hives producing mad honey (illegally) and collapsed after his blood pressure dropped.
