A prison guard was killed in a blast that hit a bus today in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa, Governor Yakup Janbolat said, adding that it was believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device.
It is not clear who carried out the bombing, Janbolat said, adding that the bomb had been placed next to an electric pole and detonated remotely as a bus carrying prison staff passed by.
One person was seriously injured in the blast while two or three others were injured but were discharged from the hospital, the governor added.
“All units of the security forces are working on the issue from all sides. We will try to resolve the issue and arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible,” Janbolat said, adding that the justice and home affairs ministers would travel to Bursa.
Although attacks have dropped significantly in recent years, similar attacks have been carried out in the past by Kurdish, leftist and Islamist fighters.
