Turkey rejects NATO invitation to tripartite talks with Sweden and Finland

Turkey has rejected a NATO invitation to hold trilateral talks with Finland and Sweden to find a solution to Ankara’s opposition to the Nordic countries’ accession to the Alliance, according to the Financial Times.

According to three experts familiar with the talks, cited by the FT, Ankara requested concrete proposals from Helsinki and Stockholm before holding talks, prompting NATO officials to take action to reach a bilateral agreement. each country.

In this context, a meeting between officials of the three countries was scheduled for yesterday, Wednesday, coordinated by a NATO official, but it did not go ahead.

The ultimate goal was a tripartite meeting mediated by NATO officials, but as a senior FT official said, “we are not there yet”, citing Turkey’s reluctance to participate and a lack of clarity on Ankara’s demands from the two countries.
