Turkish authorities have arrested a man suspected of “intense interest” in the July assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moyes, Foreign Minister Claude Joseph said late last night.
Moise, 53, a former businessman who took over the presidency in 2017, was shot and killed inside the presidential residence, while his wife was injured in the attack.
The main suspects were Colombian mercenaries, although no charges have been filed against anyone and no one has been convicted in connection with the case.
“I just had a telephone conversation with the Turkish minister, my friend Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoλουlu, to thank him for Turkey for the arrest of Samir Hadal, one of the people most interested in the investigation into the assassination of the president,” he wrote. Joseph on Twitter.
Turkish media reported today that Handal, who was wanted by Interpol, was arrested at Istanbul airport by authorities on a flight from the United States with a stopover in Turkey and a destination in Jordan.
