Turkey: The Bosphorus straits were closed – A cargo ship ran aground due to damage

The Bosphorus Straits at Turkey have closed as one freighter which is experiencing damage has run aground and traffic is no longer possible.

According to the Reuters agency the ship Lady Zehma173 meters long, ran aground due to damage to the rudder, while this information was conveyed by the Turkish shipping company Tribeca.

Nevertheless, information circulating in the foreign media indicates that the wrong guidance may have been initially given to the ship from the moment the damage was learned.

Also, the Istanbul governor’s office said the Turkish coastguard is assisting the cargo ship and no injuries have been reported.

According to the joint coordination center of the UN, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey for the export of Ukrainian grain, the Lady Zehma set sail on August 30 from Chornomorsk, Ukraine, bound for Ravenna, Italy, and is carrying 3,000 tons of corn.
