Turkey’s vaccine against COVID-19, Turkovac, has been licensed for emergency use by Turkish authorities and will be available for use from next weekend, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said today.
Turkey started manufacturing Turkovac this year, but the release date of the vaccine has been hit by delays. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said that Turkey would make the vaccine available worldwide.
Turkey has already administered more than 125 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, using vaccines made by Chinese Sinovac and Pfizer / BioNTech, with more than 51 million people receiving both doses of the vaccine. He has also started giving boosting doses.
Koca made the remarks at a Turkish vaccine manufacturing facility in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.
The number of daily cases of the new coronavirus in Turkey is around 20,000, while the daily number of deaths from COVID-19 remains close to 200.
