Turkey: Unconditional surrender of F-35 and Patriot, asks Erdogan’s collaborator

In an article in the US Wall Street Journal, its communications director Turkish government, Fahrettin Altundemanded the unconditional delivery of fighter jets F-35 and the anti-aircraft system Patriot from the USA.

His view was in response to a previous article in the newspaper stating that if Turkey seeks to normalize relations with the West should hand over the Russian S-400 system to the Ukrainians to fight the Russians more effectively.

“Although (this demand) is not realistic today, this idea presents an opportunity to discuss the problems that Turkey has recently experienced in its relations with the West.”said the associate of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

A senior Turkish government official has criticized the United States for its stance after Ankara acquired Russian missiles. He stressed that they forget that Turkey initially approached the US for the purchase of the Patriot system.

“Given that Turkey is in one of the most dangerous and unstable regions in the world and the threats it has received have not magically disappeared with the rejection of Washington, Ankara had to look at its alternatives.”“Turkey could not afford to buy the Patriot system,” he said.

“The Turks still remember that our allies withdrew Patriot batteries from Turkey during the high tensions in Turkey-Russia relations. “Given this experience, the Turkish people no longer take seriously any unofficial promise from the West that they will supply us with the Patriot.”He wrote.

“Turkey’s” removal “from the politically motivated F-35 program makes it difficult to take seriously the ‘transport’… carrot of Turkey’s return,” he added, adding that it was up to the West to normalize its relations with Turkey.

Macron Tips

At the same time, Altun also spoke out against French President Emmanuel Macron, who had previously described NATO as deadly when Turkey threatened Greece.

“The Ukrainian crisis has shown that geopolitical conclusions have been drawn that underestimated Turkey’s strategic position, especially those who described NATO as ‘brain dead’ and believed that national borders were no longer a matter of debate.”, he said. “Turkey expects the West to treat it as it deserves,” Altun concluded.
