Construction company Baykar and the Turkish Defense Industry Organization will donate an advanced Bayraktar TB2 drone to Lithuania to be sent to Ukraine, following crowdfunding of Lithuanians who raised nearly 6m euros to buy it, the ministry said on Thursday. Lithuania Defense.

Baykar will deliver the drone in a few weeks. It will be painted in the colors of the Lithuanian and Ukrainian flags, according to the ministry, which said last week it would buy the boat.

“We came to Turkey to agree on the terms for the purchase of the unmanned aircraft, but they prepared the most pleasant surprise for us,” said Deputy Defense Minister Vilius Semaska.

Baykar confirmed its donation in a Twitter post. “The Lithuanian people have raised money to buy a Bayraktar TB2 for Ukraine. As soon as we learned this, Baykar decided to donate a Bayraktar TB2 to Lithuania and is asking for the money to go to Ukraine for humanitarian aid,” the company said.

Hundreds of people donated to buy the drone for Ukraine as a sign of solidarity in its war against Russia.

A total of 5.9m euros was raised in just 5-1 / 2 days, according to Lithuanian Laisves TV, which launched the initiative for the campaign.

About 1.5m euros of the money raised will be used to buy drone armaments, the defense ministry said, while the rest will be used for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
