Turkey recorded 87,934 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, according to health ministry figures.
Daily cases of the virus in Turkey have more than increased fivefold since late December, extending record levels to the end of last month, as the Omicron variant spread rapidly. On Friday, 111,157 new cases were recorded, the highest number recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.
On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced also that he and his wife tested positive for the micron variant of COVID-19.
