Turkish provocation posed to Latin American governments by PM’s adviser I. Pipinis

The issue of Turkish provocation, as well as issues of tourism and trade cooperation were discussed by the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for Latin America, Jason Pippin, during his meetings with the ministers of the governments of Bolivia and Peru, during his visit to the two Andean countries.

“Turkey undermines security in Europe. It continues to challenge and violate Greece’s national airspace,” Pipinis said during a meeting with Peruvian Deputy Foreign Minister Luis Enrique Basagoitia. “Greece has always been and continues to be a factor of stability in the wider region.” The Peruvian Deputy Foreign Minister acknowledged that “Greece plays a stabilizing role for regional peace and security.” It is noted that Turkey, in recent years, maintains privileged relations with many countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Prime Minister’s aide also raised the issue of Turkish provocation in the meeting he had in Bolivia with the Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani Machaca, in which he even presented the issue of Greece’s candidacy for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (period 2025 -2026).

It is recalled that in the two Andean countries recently left-wing governments were elected. The visit of the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister Mr. Jason Pipini to Bolivia and Peru is part of the approach that Greece seeks with the countries of Latin America. “The goal of the rapprochement with the Latin American countries is to promote our national interests. In this region, Greece has valuable allies, but also dynamic organizations of expatriates”, stressed Mr. Iason Pipinis. Recently, in fact, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikos Dendias, has stated that the upgrading of our relations with Latin America is a priority for our country.

In Peru, Mr. Pippin also had a meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Isabel Alvarez Novoa, with whom they discussed issues of bilateral interest and the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism. In fact, Mr. Pipinis gave as a gift to the Peruvian Minister the book entitled “The olive on Lesvos”.

It is pointed out that a few weeks ago, in the context of the opening of tourism in Latin America, promoted by Mr. Pipinis, an EOT Office was opened in Madrid, targeting the Latin American market. Also, since last year, the air connection of Greece with 6 Latin American countries has been strengthened, with an agreement between EOT and the Spanish airline “Air Europa”.

Mr. Pipinis also had a meeting with the Minister of Culture of Peru, Mr. Alejandro Salas Zegarra, with whom he discussed issues of bilateral cooperation. It is recalled that Greece, Bolivia and Peru are members of the “Forum of Ancient Civilizations”.

The Special Adviser to the Prime Minister Mr. Iason Pipinis also met with the Greek communities in Peru and Bolivia, where he recorded the issues that concern them, while conveying the greetings and the special interest of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the region. Thousands of Greeks live in the two Andean countries, mainly of the third and fourth generation. In Peru most expatriates live in the capital Lima, while in Bolivia they are concentrated mainly in Santa Cruz and La Paz.
