Many women who have since left the sect told his trial that they were “sex slaves”. A woman testified that Oktar had her sexually assaulted and forced women to take birth control pills.

In January last year, Oktar who had been sentenced to more than 1,000 years and the courtroom heard details of sexual crimeswith Oktar telling the presiding judge that he had almost 1,000 girlfriendsbroadcasts the Daily Mail.
“There is one “overflow” of love in my heart for women. Love is a human quality. It is an attribute of being a Muslim,” he told another hearing in October. “I am extremely strong,” he emphasized. Oktar first came to public attention in the 1990s when he was the leader of a sect involved in multiple sexual scandals.
His online TV channel A9 started broadcasting in 2011 and received complaints from religious leaders of Turkey. One of the women in the trial, identified only as CC, told the court that Oktar had repeatedly sexually abuse her and other women.
Some of the women he had raped were forced to take birth control pills, CC told the court. Asked about 69,000 birth control pills found at his home by police, Oktar said they were used for treatment of skin disorders and menstrual disorders.
Oktar was arrested in 2018 along with dozens of his followers in police raids at his properties in Istanbul and other cities as part of an investigation into his group. The arrests were made after the Turkish media watchdog imposed fines on Oktar’s TV channel and suspended broadcasts of his shows where he was surrounded by women who had undergone cosmetic surgery and were known as “kittens”.
The televangelist – who uses the pseudonym Harun Yahya – is also known for a series of books he has written promoting creationism against Darwin’s theory of evolution.
