Turks line up to buy cheap meat – “What a shame”

Young and old in Turkey are queuing up to buy cheap meat as prices of essential goods have soared. Citizens are outraged by the situation, calling it resiliency, pointing out that no one deserves something like this.

“Today with the basic salary you buy 20 kilos of minced meat” said Manolis Kostidis on the SKAI show “Today”, with Dimitris Oikonomou and Akis Pavlopoulos. “The basic salary is around 390-400 euros […] The standard of living has fallen in a spectacular way.”

“The increase in the price of meat does not stop. In any discount market there are huge queues as people try to buy some cheap meat,” says Sozcu TV presenter Fatih Portakal.

“We are tortured”

“At the supermarkets meat it reached 400 pounds, we can’t buy it. We are retired. We have no such strength and we are tortured. I’m waiting here and my legs are numb,” says one woman.

“Do you know what hunger means? Do you know what it means to not be able to buy products? These people here can’t even buy a kilo or two of minced meat. Do you know what that means? Where is the pride? With hunger there is no pridesays another.

Some characterize the situation as resili. “But what a mess this situation is; And then they ask us for our vote. The state should do something. What should we do? I will wait to be called to get some meat” says a man. “I don’t deserve this, I’m not good to be here. I don’t deserve such a situation,” emphasizes another.
