TV Globo reporter stabbed in Brasilia

TV Globo reporter Gabriel Luiz, 28, suffered an attempted murder on the night of this Thursday (15) in Brasília.

He was stabbed around 11pm. According to police, the reporter received approximately 10 stab wounds. The perforations hit the abdomen, arms and neck. The attack took place in a parking lot near the building where the journalist lives, in the Southwest.

Images captured by security cameras from buildings near the crime scene show two suspects following Gabriel. The attack lasted less than 1 minute. After the crime, the images show the bandits fleeing and Gabriel running injured.

The reporter was rescued by firefighters working in a barracks close to the scene and taken immediately to the Base Hospital, where he was operated on during the night. This Friday morning, his condition was stable, despite being sedated and breathing with the help of machines, due to the complexity of the surgeries.

According to the delegate investigating the case, Douglas Fernandes, the police have not yet identified the suspects and do not know the possible cause of the attack. The knife used in the crime was left at the scene and is being examined.

TV Globo commented on the case in a statement: “Globo deeply regrets what happened. He is awaiting the police investigations and providing all assistance to our reporter and family members. Globo strongly repudiates all forms of violence and hopes that the case will be clarified as soon as possible”.
