TV message by K. Mitsotakis at 19.00 for the new support measures

A message from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be broadcast this afternoon at 19.00 regarding the new measures to support households, businesses and farmers.

The announcements of the support measures for dealing with the effects of the revaluations on the citizens will be made tomorrow, Thursday, March 17, at 8.30 at the General Secretariat of Information, by the Ministers: Finance Christos Staikouras, Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas, Rural Development and Nutritionist Minister of Finance Theodoros Skylakakis. The presentation will be coordinated by the Deputy Minister in addition to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.

As previously reported by Capital.gr: On two fronts, related to the internal movements in support of households, businesses and farmers, but also to the strengthening of alliances, in view of the Summit of March 24 and 25, the Maximos Palace is moving, against the strong front of energy price increases. The announcements for the next part of the “shielding” interventions, which will complete the … puzzle of the package of two billion euros so far, are expected tomorrow, without excluding, according to government sources, a TV message from Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself, the which will analyze aspects of government decisions.

At the same time, the countries of the European South are coordinating their pace, a few days before the “27” meeting in Brussels, demanding European answers to a European problem, as the pressures on energy costs escalated, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, standing up … Clutter in the budgets of millions of consumers.

On Friday morning, the Prime Ministers of Italy, Mario Draghi, Spain, Pedro Sanchez and Portugal, Antonio Costa, will meet in Rome, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis participating in a teleconference in the discussions of the four leaders. The aim of the Prime Ministers of the South of the European Union is to create a common and, at the same time, strong agenda towards the so-called “frugal” countries of the North, in view of the forthcoming Council, during which joint support measures will be sought. “We will coordinate our initiatives, especially on energy issues, which we propose as a top priority”, was the message sent by Mr. Mitsotakis, during the press conference he gave at the end of the extraordinary Versailles Summit. In fact, in anticipation of λευ any white smoke from the “27” side for the pan-European interventions, the government staff will expand the support initiatives with a new package of measures that unfolds in three pillars:

-The first pillar is the continuation of the horizontal reinforcement in terms of electricity and gas. An aid that, as government officials comment, is an attempt to be as strong as possible.

The second pillar is the financial support that will be given directly to the most vulnerable citizens. On this front, all possibilities regarding the width of the perimeter will be exhausted, while the aid that will be given will be tax-free and will not be offset by any debt.

-The third pillar is the intervention in the fuel, so that the consumer pays at a price lower than the one stated at the gas stations. Beneficiaries will be determined by criteria, but more extensive than those applicable to the payment of special aid.

“The decisions we will take on the relief measures are facilitated by the course of tax revenues in the first two months of the year, which was much better than expected. Tax inflows amounted to almost nine billion euros, ie 887 million euros higher than the target Part of this increase, about 300 million euros, is related to the extension of the deadline for payment of road tax. After its removal, revenues are 587 million euros better than the target, which on the one hand confirms that “The economy was growing faster than budgeted and on the other hand it is making it easier for the government to take additional aid measures.”

In particular, and in anticipation of tomorrow’s announcements, support measures against price increases in gas and electricity will continue, while special care is expected to be taken for energy-intensive businesses. At the same time, there will be special measures for motor fuels. And this is expected to be done with… compass the standard for heating subsidy. That is, through the creation of a special platform for the refund of fuel tax to the most vulnerable social groups.

The interventions, which will come to the forefront, will be accompanied by the so-called “check of accuracy”, in a range that will embrace as much as possible of the social groups. A ύ compass in terms of “accuracy check” is the model set by the government before the Christmas period. When additional aid was given to 800,000 low-income pensioners 250 euros (increased by 50 euros for each protected member) additional assistance to 173,000 people with a disability of 250 euros and twice the amount that they would normally receive to the beneficiaries of the minimum guaranteed income.
