False: It is false that federal police officer Karina Lino Miranda de Oliveira was pregnant and lost her child after being hit by a grenade thrown by former PTB president and former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson. A tweet attributed to presenter Xuxa Meneghel about the case is also false, according to Comprova’s investigation and information provided by the artist’s advice to the report. Karina was not pregnant and suffered minor injuries from shards of glass from the car’s windshield, hit by the explosive on October 23.
Investigated Content: One post on facebook shows an alleged tweet attributed to presenter Xuxa, in which she would have shown solidarity to a federal police officer injured during an operation for the arrest of former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson (PTB). According to the piece of disinformation, the security agent was pregnant and had lost the baby after the conflict with the former parliamentarian. “How long, brother evangelicals (sic), will you continue to insist on following such an inhuman government. Romans 1:32 not only who does, but also who consents,” writes the profile that made the post on Facebook.

Completion of Proof: It is false that federal police officer Karina Lino Miranda de Oliveira was pregnant and lost her child after being hit by a grenade thrown by former PTB president and former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson. The Federal Police (PF) denied that the policewoman was pregnant. Karina was indeed part of the PF team that was attacked by Roberto Jefferson, but she had only minor injuries.
It is also false that presenter Xuxa Meneghel published a tweet alleging that the security agent had lost the alleged baby as a result of the actions of the former parliamentarian who resisted arrest. An advanced search on Xuxa’s profile on Twitter does not show results for the expressions used in the target piece of the check. To Comprova, the artist’s press office denied that she had published such content.
The post has already received from Facebook the “false information” seal, based on checks carried out by independent verifiers, but the publication remains accessible on the platform. Facebook also recommended that users access the Electoral Justice website to find official information about the 2022 elections and provided a link to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) website.
False for Comprova is content invented or edited to change its original meaning and deliberately disseminated to spread a falsehood.
Scope of publication: On Facebook, the piece targeted by the check had 620 reactions, 572 comments and 623 shares as of October 25, 2022.
What does the publisher say?: Comprova sent a message to the profile that published Xuxa’s fake tweet, but received no response until the publication of this material.
How do we check: Comprova contacted official Federal Police sources in both Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, to verify information that federal police officer Karina de Oliveira was in the vehicle attacked by Roberto Jefferson. During the contact, we also checked if the agent was pregnant, which was denied by the agency. Afterwards, we contacted Xuxa’s press office.
Xuxa did not post about the case
On her Twitter profile, the last update made by the presenter was on October 18, that is, almost a week before the event, on October 23.
The presenter’s team confirmed that the message was not originally published on Xuxa’s profile. “Fake. Xuxa did not make this post”, was the reply sent to Comprova.
In addition, the Twitter profile photo attributed to Xuxa, used in the montage that is being shared, does not match the current photo used by the presenter in her profile on the social network.
PF denies that injured police officer was pregnant
Karina de Oliveira was not pregnant, so she did not lose any children due to her injuries. The information is not included in any police report and was denied by official PF sources.
The agent was wounded in the head and in other parts of the body by shards of glass from the windshield, which was hit by a grenade thrown by Roberto Jefferson, according to the PF. Karina was promptly attended to and had minor injuries. She was taken to a local hospital and discharged the same day.
Roberto Jefferson is indicted for attempted murder
Karina wasn’t the only one injured in the episode. Federal delegate Marcelo Vilella was also in the vehicle and was hit by shrapnel. The policeman had minor injuries and was treated at the same hospital as Karina.

The case took place on October 23, in Levy Gasparian, a municipality in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, where Jefferson lives. PF agents went to the politician’s residence to comply with an arrest warrant issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and were attacked by the former deputy with grenades and a rifle.
Jefferson turned himself in after eight hours of failing to comply with the STF’s decision. According to the Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration (SEAP)he was held in prison this Monday (24), by order of the Justice, and was taken to the Pedrolino Werling de Oliveira Prison (Bangu 8), in the Gericinó Complex, in the West Zone.
The former deputy is investigated in the investigation that investigates the activities of a criminal organization (digital militia) that would have acted with the intention of provoking an attack against the Democratic State of Law. Jefferson had been under house arrest and was banned from using social media. However, in the last week, he appeared in a video on the networks cursing against STF minister Cármen Lúcia, complaining about a court decision taken by her.

Maria Aparecida Vieira de Lima is 52 years old and was born in Inajá, Pernambuco. She is a lawyer registered with the OAB subsection of the city of Santo André, in Greater São Paulo. On her Instagram profile, it appears that she has a PhD in Theology, a Postgraduate Degree in Constitutional Law, Electoral Law and Social Security Practice. She has recorded online classes on religion and politics. In the 2020 municipal elections, the lawyer ran for the Workers’ Party (PT) for the position of councilor for the city of Santo André, using the name Pastora Maria Aparecida.
According to the Electoral Justice, Maria Aparecida has been affiliated with the PT since 2018.
why do we investigate: Comprova investigates suspicious content about the pandemic, public policies of the federal government and the presidential elections. False or misleading publications involving presidential candidates, such as the piece verified here, can lead to misinterpretations of reality and influence voters at the time of voting. Citizens have the right to base their choices on true and reliable information.
Other checks on the topic: In a recent check the Rumors.org denied that the federal police officer hit at the time was pregnant, as well as the G1 portal. THE Reuters agency also confirmed that the post being shared was not made by Xuxa.
