At least twelve people died and another 58 were injured when a bus overturned on a highway in the eastern state of Veracruz Mexicolocal authorities announced.
The accident happened on a road that connects the cities of La Tinaja and Acayucanin the southern part of the state, authorities explained via social networking sites.
An AFP source in the National Guard said that the accident, according to the first indications, was due to driver error.
A massive mobilization of emergency services was needed due to the large number of victims, the Veracruz state government said.
Dozens of injured were taken to state hospitals, seven of whom are in a very serious conditionaccording to sources close to the security forces.
