Twenty days with up to ten hours without light in the Raval of Barcelona

There are houses in the neighborhood of Raval, in the center of Barcelona, which chain 20 days of blackouts. “We can be between five and ten hours without light, depending on the day,” calculates an affected neighbor of the Salvador street, where the damage completely affects several buildings, including businesses, and extends to buildings on the adjacent streets of Sant Antoni Abat y Cendra.

“24 hours do not pass and the power goes out again. On Monday he left at five in the afternoon and returned at three in the morning. On Sunday he left in the morning and returned to pass at night,” he details the same resident, who numbers at least six farms with frequent brownouts since November 11. “But on Monday we made a pan and there were about twenty buildings protesting,” he emphasizes.

It so happens that in the same section of the Raval, protests were also made from the balconies during the confinement from March to June. At that time, neighbors witnessed an obvious drug dealing in the street. Some involved in the deal scolded them.

Endesa He responds that about 70 subscribers suffer from the accident, which he attributes to a sewage leak in the drain that connects a building with the sewer system and that has damaged the wiring. The electricity company assures that it detected it around November 17 and that it depends on the town hall fix the leak to repair the wiring. The local government indicates that the owners must take care of the arrangement, but will assume the cost from the outset and expect to complete it on Friday.

Meanwhile, the supply of the damaged streets has been diverted to other lines. The measure does not prevent blackouts that, according to Endesa, occur because the power lines become saturated when meeting more demand than usual.

The incident has caused damage. “The intercom and the glass ceramic have been damaged”, testifies an affected person, to which he adds that the cuts hinder the teleworking. “On Monday the register box of a house from which smoke was coming out caught fire. In our building, when they were giving us light, we began to hear explosions. They were the light bulbs on the landing, which exploded,” he completes.

Endesa has not found on this occasion electrical fraud to get hooked on the current without paying or growing marijuana, although it does not rule out that it exists and overloads the network. Raval collectives gathered on Saturday to warn that drug trafficking persists despite periodic police blows. “It’s more makeup than anything else,” thinks a neighbor, who identifies three narcotics on Salvador Street, two assets: “We have a little less feeling of insecurity, but at ten o’clock at night you notice that the street is full and the usual traffickers act. We demand police presence, but the answer is that there is no effective “.
