Twitch source code posted online along with streamer earnings data since 2019

An anonymous hacker posted a 126GB torrent on 4chan, which contains the source code of the Twitch streaming platform. The author of the post describes the Twitch community as a “disgusting toxic dump”, and explains his actions by the desire to develop competition between streaming platforms. According to him, this is the first part of the leak, and, apparently, more data should be expected in the near future.

The leak reportedly includes the following:

  • twitch.tv source code with commit history;
  • various proprietary SDKs, internal AWS tools and services;
  • any other property of Twitch, including IGDB and CurseForge;
  • Files associated with the Vapor project, a Steam competitor from Amazon Game Studios;
  • Twitch SOC internal team tools;
  • reports on payments to authors since 2019.

The forum post also contains the hashtag #DoBetterTwitch, which was originally created by marginal streamers with the aim of encouraging platform creators to improve security and prevent hate.

According to the leaked information, the top streamers on Twitch have earned between $ 3 million and $ 9.6 million since 2019. Twitch and Amazon have yet to respond to the leak, but users are encouraged to change their passwords and set up two-factor authentication.
