Twitch will ban streamers for off-platform aggression

Twitch, being one of the most popular live streaming platforms, is quite active in fighting aggression, offensive language and oppression of minorities by imposing various rules and restrictions on streamers. But earlier, all the innovations concerned exclusively the behavior on the platform itself – if the presenter violated the rules of the platform, then his account was blocked for a certain period or permanently. The same requirements were imposed on the audience. But starting yesterday, April 7, the platform will start punishing streamers and viewers for inappropriate behavior outside of Twitch.

The new rules by which platform participants will be punished are divided into two categories. The first includes various harassment outside of Twitch, which is directly related to the events that took place during the live broadcast. For example, a presenter may file a complaint against a user for inappropriate comments posted on social media that harass the streamer in any way. Probably, the rule works in the same way in the direction of the presenter, who will continue to put pressure on the user outside the broadcast.

However, the second category of rules is more suitable for streamers, according to which Twitch representatives will punish the hosts on a number of points. For example, if a streamer’s messages on social networks or elsewhere contain calls to violence, extremism or terrorism, then his profile will be blocked (most likely permanently). They will also punish threats of violence, participation in groups calling to hate, for content of a sexual nature, as well as for actions or statements that pose a threat to the safety of the Twitch audience. That is, the user can send a complaint against the streamer for his statement on Twitter, and if the platform considers this statement unacceptable, the presenter will be blocked.
