Twitter has announced that it has added support for Ether payments to its service to reward users, which previously only supported Bitcoin.
Twitter launched a BTC tipping system back in September last year, and now the service has begun to support ETH as well. According to statementusers who want to receive “tips” in ETH need to enable the corresponding function in their account settings and add an Ethereum wallet address.
Interestingly, the system does not yet support ENS names. This system is similar to the DNS system on the Internet – it allows you to give alphabetic names to addresses on the Ethereum network.
“Tips” in bitcoin on the Twitter platform pass through the Lightning Network. There are no details on exactly how transfers to ETH will take place yet. Most likely, the developers implemented support for one of the Ethereum sidechains to reduce fees. At the same time, there are no commissions from the social network itself.
“Tipping allows you to express your respect, support or reward the user – from novice content creators and journalists, to popular bloggers and Twitter Spaces members,” the service page says.
Recall that in January, Twitter developers added NFT support for user avatars. At the same time, Twitter came under criticism from Tesla founder Elon Musk, who said that the company could spend developer resources on more useful things.
