Twitter has blocked a user who was tracking the movements of Elon Musk’s private jet

The user account that operated through an automated software program and tracked the company owner’s private aircraft Elon Musk closed the Twitter Inc, as reported Wednesday (12/15) by Jack Sweeney, who managed the “ElonJet” account.

The Twitter account in question tracked the movements of Musk’s private jet using publicly available data.

The account was deactivated after Musk had stated that his “son” was being followed by “a madman” by mistake.

Musk said in a post in November that his commitment to free speech “even includes not disabling the account that tracks the aircraft me, despite the fact that this is a risk to my personal safety.”

“Posting in real time about someone else’s location violates the policy for the protection of personal data on the internet, but timed posts about this particular topic are in line with this policy,” he said yesterday, Wednesday (12/14). Musk, reacting to a post about disabling the profile mentioned above.

Publishing sensitive data about a person or organization is known as ‘doxxing, including their home address or phone number.

Sweeney, a 20-year-old student at the University of Central Florida who runs similar accounts tracking Musk’s private jet on Facebook, Instagram and Telegram, said in a post on Saturday that Ella Irwin, vice president of Twitter for reliability and security recommended that access to the same account should be restricted so that fewer users have access to it.

Twitter Inc and Sweeney did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Sweeney has said in previous interviews that he had turned down an offer of $5,000 from Musk in 2021 to deactivate his account.

In a separate development, the Twitter accounts that track the private jet movements of billionaire tech entrepreneurs Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates have also been deactivated.

Twitter soon reinstated the automated programmatic account, before disabling it again after announcing that releasing tracking information was a violation of its policy.

Musk said yesterday that “any user account that publishes a real-time location will be disabled, as this is a physical breach of personal security.”

“Posts about locations someone has traveled to in a later time are not a security issue. So it’s okay,” explained Musk, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

The billionaire said in a post that one of his sons (lil X) was harassed, linking the incident to stalking accounts.

“Last night a car carrying my son was followed by a crazy annoying fan (they thought it was me). He later blocked the movement of the vehicle and climbed onto its hood. Legal action is being taken against Sweeney and organizations that support the harassment of my family,” according to Musk
