Twitter suspends profile that tracks Elon Musk’s jet

Twitter has suspended a bot account that tracks its owner Elon Musk’s private jet, the profile’s operator, Jack Sweeney, said on Wednesday.

The account tracked the movements of Musk’s private jet using public domain data and issuing alerts.

Musk had said in a tweet in November that his commitment to free speech “extends even to not banning the account that follows my plane, even if that is a direct risk to personal safety.”

Sweeney, a 20-year-old student at the University of Central Florida, tweeted Saturday that Ella Irwin, Twitter’s vice president of trust and security, requested that the account be filtered and less visible to users.

Twitter and Sweeney did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

In media interviews, Sweeney said he turned down a $5,000 offer from Tesla’s chief executive in 2021 to close his account.

Sweeney also operates similar automated accounts that track Musk’s jet on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Telegram.
