Twitter was fined in Russia 6.5 million rubles for not deleting content

The Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined the social network Twitter 6.5 million rubles for refusing to remove illegal content. This was reported by the RIA Novosti newspaper with reference to the press service of the court, which has already ruled on two of the three protocols drawn up by Roskomnadzor.

The court found Twitter guilty under Part 2 of Art. 13.41. Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for restricting access to information, access to which is subject to restriction in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation). In this regard, a penalty was imposed in the form of fines in the amount of 3.2 and 3.3 million rubles, they must be paid within the prescribed period (60 days from the date of entry into force of this decision). Next in line is another hearing, according to which Twitter may receive a third fine in the same amount.

Roskomnadzor has prepared reports of offense on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, YouTube and Telegram for refusals to remove content that violates Russian law. In particular, we are talking about calls for participation in unauthorized actions of underage citizens of Russia and other offenses.

On March 10, the department began to limit the speed of Twitter on the territory of Russia, at the same time threatening to completely block the social network if the requirements were not met. The company carried out them reluctantly and not to the full, therefore, received a corresponding punishment. In this case, the law provides for a fine of up to 4 million rubles, and in case of repeated violations, it can amount to a fifth of the company’s annual revenue.
