Two Brazilian ice cream parlors are among the 50 best in the world; meet

Located in Belém do Pará, fall an ice cream shop that has just appeared in the ranking of the 50 best in the world in yet another edition of World Gelato Festival .

The awards, launched ten years ago and which runs a series of competitions in 22 countries, revealed the 2022 winners in Rome, Italy, this month. Sorveteria Cairu appears in 32nd place, while another Brazilian gelateria, San Lorenzo, from São Paulo, appears in 37th place.

Cairu Ice Cream Shop has a history. Opened for over 50 years by Ruth and Armando Laiun, they say that going to Belém and not tasting one of its flavors is as if the trip never happened.

It was elected the best ice cream shop in Brazil in 2014 and is successful for presenting flavors with exotic fruits that are best known in the region, such as mucuri, cupuaçu, taperebá or bacuri.

San Lorenzo Gelateria is located in the Morumbi district, in the capital of São Paulo, and has 50 flavors of ice cream, in addition to patisserie sweets.

The gelatiere chef is Brenno Floriano, who has won other awards at the same festival, in 2018 and 2021, all with the San Lorenzo flavor, a ricotta gelato, honey variegato with rosemary and pine nuts.

In first place at this year’s Festival is the Italian gelateria I Giardini Di Marzo in Varazze, in the Liguria region- Italy, by the way, has seven ice cream parlors in the top ten positions.
