Two Brazilian restaurants are among the 50 best in the world

The list of 50 best restaurants in the world of 2022 was revealed this Monday (18) in a face-to-face ceremony organized by the The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, In London. Among the names, two Brazilian houses are in the ranking.

THE Pig House restaurant in downtown São Paulo, won a place among the top 10 restaurants and appears in 7th place . Last year, the chef’s house Jefferson Rueda went to only Brazilian to appear on the listin 17th place.

As the name implies, the protagonist of the house is the pig. Non-obvious creations such as pork jowl sushi or reinterpretations, such as porcopoca (crab cake served in a bag of popcorn, which doubles as the couvert) are local stars.

The list of the 50 best restaurants in the world is compiled from the votes of a group of 1,080 anonymous food experts around the world.

According to the organization, each panelist is asked to submit up to 10 votes based on personal experiences at favorite restaurants over the past 18 months, with the voting and results judged independently by a service consultancy.

Other recognitions

On the occasion, the Aponiente restaurant, in El Puerto de Santa María, in Andalusia, Spain, was awarded the “Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award” for sustainability.

Before the main list was revealed, other parallel recognitions were released over the past few months. O partial ranking of the 100 best restaurants in the world, which includes homes between 51st and 100th, was released on July 5.

Among the results, four Brazilian restaurants appear on the list including the SUN in 53rd place, the evvai in 67th, the lasai in 78th and, finally, the mani in 96th position.

the prize of “Icon” of the year was given to Wawira Njiru an entrepreneur who runs the Food for Education foundation, which provides healthy food and education to at least 40,000 children in Kenya.

The restaurant to keep an eye on, from the “One to Watch” award, was awarded to the AM for Alexandre Mazzia , in Marseille, France. Led by chef Alexandre Mazzia, the business is described by 50 Best as “a key player in the renaissance of the city’s culinary scene”.

List celebrates 20 years

This edition marks 20 years since the first list of the 50 best restaurants of The World’s 50 Best was released in 2002. At the time, no Brazilian restaurant entered the ranking.

In addition, this year’s event returned to Londonand the ceremony took place at Old Billingsgate, a former fish market in the UK capital that overlooks the River Thames and Tower Bridge, both city landmarks.

It is worth remembering that London had already hosted 13 awards ceremonies, between 2003 and 2015. The event then took place in different parts of the world, including New York, Melbourne, Bilbao, Singapore and Antwerp.
