The list with 100 most influential people in world cocktails was revealed this Tuesday (27) and two Brazilians are included in the prestigious list: Marcio Silva ex-Guilhotina Bar and co-host of the reality show “Bar Aberto”, and Thiago Bañares in charge of Tan Tan – the only national bar among the 100 best in the world – and the bars Kotori and The Liquor Store.
Professionals appear at positions 92 and 96, respectively. The ranking “Bar World 100 ” is organized by Drinks International, respected publication in the global spirits, wines and beers market.
This is the fifth consecutive time that Márcio appears among the most influential people in the world of drinks – last year he ranked 66th. “I’m thrilled and it’s a matter of not even paying attention to the ranking of positions. The feeling is indescribable, because this last year has been one of the most professionally and personally challenging for me”, he wrote on his Instagram profile.
The 2023 edition also marks Thiago’s first time on the list. “It is also a great responsibility. We want to use this influence to bring something positive to the country”, said Thiago in a statement.
Through social networks, the name in front of Tan Tan thanked the recognition and pointed out that the feat would only be possible thanks to the team of their houses in São Paulo.
It is worth mentioning that Tan Tan is currently the only Brazilian bar in the 50 Best ranking of the 100 best bars in the world and that Kotori appears in 65th position among the best restaurants in Latin America – the house in Pinheiros was opened in 2021 and has skewers of chicken like stars.
Highlights of South America and women at the top
The 100 names on the list belong to more than 67 cities around the world. Of this number, two-thirds belong to Europe and North America. South America appears with seven professionals in the ranking.
In addition to Brazil, the publication highlights bartenders and cocktail professionals from Colombia, Argentina and Peru.
Are they: Jean Trinh of Alchemical in Cartagena (3rd place); Tato Giovannoni of Floreria Atlantico in Buenos Aires (4th); Ines de los Santos of cochinchina in Buenos Aires (33rd); Sebastian Atienza of 3 monos in Buenos Aires (41st) and Aaron Diaz of Carnival Bar in Lima (68th).
In the first place, Monica Berg was elected the most influential person in the world on the “Bar World 100” list of 2023 – it is the fourth time that she has led the ranking. Monica is at the head of Tayer + Elementary London bar that appears in 2nd place in the current edition of the 50 best bars in the world.
vote
The ranking is constructed based on the votes of a panel of 100 voters around the world, who are industry professionals including media, brand representatives, event organizers, educators, consultants and, of course, bartenders.
According to Drinks International, each nominates 10 figures they consider most influential in the world of bars. A maximum of three of the 10 votes can be for people from the same city of residence and a maximum of five from your country. They cannot vote for themselves or anyone whose company they share an interest in.
