Two people were killed and about 10 injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Norway’s capital Oslo on Saturday, Norwegian police said.
Public broadcaster NRK and other local media reported that the shooting took place at the London Pub, a popular gay bar and nightclub in the city centre.
“I saw a man arrive with a bag, he took a gun and started shooting,” NRK journalist Olav Roenneberg told the station’s news website.
A suspect was arrested nearby, according to police. It is still unclear what the motive for the attack was.
Oslo is due to hold its annual Pride parade this Saturday.
“Two people are confirmed dead,” the Oslo Police Department said in a tweet.
Photographs published by the newspaper VG, broadcaster NRK and others showed a large gathering of emergency teams outside the London Pub, including police and ambulances.
Helicopters flew over downtown Oslo as sirens of ambulances and police cars were heard across the city.
Three people were seriously injured, police told reporters at the scene, the VG newspaper reported.
Oslo’s university hospital said it went on red alert after the shooting.
