Two dead in a boat with migrants off the Canary Islands in Spain

Two people died trying to reach the Canary Islands on a boat carrying 40 migrants, while four others were airlifted to hospital in critical condition, Spain's maritime rescue service said. The pirogue, a type of single-logged canoe, was seen yesterday, Monday, around 8.00pm. (10:00 p.m. Greek time), from a commercial vessel which alerted the authorities on the island of Gran Canaria, reports the APE-MPE. Rescue services deployed two helicopters to evacuate the injured and a ship to tow the dinghy to Gran Canaria's port of Argineguin, 76 nautical miles (140km) to the north, where they were met by Red Cross and police personnel.
