Two aftershocks of magnitude 4.6 struck the already devastated region of Turkey on Tuesday (14), according to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Both took place in cities in the province of Kahramanmaras, where just over a month ago a magnitude 7.8 earthquake – and several aftershocks – left more than 54,000 dead in Turkey and Syria.
The first tremor occurred 19 kilometers north of the city of Afşin and the second 11 kilometers northeast of the city of Çağlayancerit.
Even about a month later, the earthquakes recorded on Tuesday are still considered aftershocks stemming from the 7.8 earthquake.
The country is still in the process of rebuilding the homes and buildings destroyed by the natural disaster. More than 160,000 buildings containing 520,000 apartments collapsed or were severely damaged in early February.
