Two-engine plane with three people crashes into the sea near Ubatuba (SP)

One twin-engine plane crashed in open sea near Ubatuba, coast of São Paulo, and Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro, this Wednesday night (24). The fall happened around 9pm.

Three people were on board the twin-engine: a 20-year-old young man (co-pilot), the pilot and a crew member.

The twin-engine left Campinas (SP) around 20:30 and would land at Jacarepaguá airport, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, at 21:30.

Until this Thursday’s early afternoon, in addition to a bench found in the sea that may belong to the aircraft, no further wreckage or evidence of the victims of the accident were found.

In a note sent to CNN, the Brazilian Air Force stated that it “located wreckage likely to be from the missing aircraft” around 6:45 am. “The location was transferred to the maritime search agencies and the flights continue”, the report added.

Family members report that, since 9 pm, they have not heard from the passengers. The copilot’s parents are in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, to accompany the search by boat.

The Fire Department of Rio de Janeiro reported that it was called at 23:46 on Wednesday (24) about an aircraft crashing in the open sea. The rescue is being mobilized by the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (Salvaero) in conjunction with the Navy, Port Authority and Civil Defense.

The São Paulo Fire Department also mobilized a vessel and 4 men from the Marine Fire Brigade to assist in the search.

“Fishermen reported that they saw an aircraft at low altitude last night towards Serra Negra / access to Paraty, where all efforts are being concentrated”, says a publication of the corporation.

In consultation with the Brazilian Aeronautical Registry (RAB), the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) informed that the aircraft was in “regular technical condition”, with authorization to carry out night flights, but could not provide air taxi service.

The aircraft’s owner is listed as the 20-year-old co-pilot José Porfírio de Brito Junior.
