Two wildfires yesterday, Tuesday, forced at least 7,000 people to leave their homes in a mountainous region of New Mexico, in the southwestern United States, where they destroyed more than 500 buildings. The large fires broke out Monday in a rural area of the state, about an hour and a half’s drive from the Mexican border. These have mainly surrounded Ruidoso, a village whose inhabitants were hastily evacuated. “I am immediately asking the residents of Ruidoso and its surrounding areas to remain calm and follow official instructions to minimize the risk,” said state governor Michelle Luhan Grisham, declaring the region a state of emergency.
