Two girls died and at least six children are hospitalized in serious condition due to an accident between a train and a bus in Jandaia do Sul, in the north of Paraná. The occurrence was recorded at the end of the morning of this Thursday (9).
Footage shows that the bus is hit by the train as it passes over the track. The collective carried 29 people, 25 of which were children from APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of the Disabled), three student monitors and the driver of the vehicle.
Victims of the occurrence were sent to several hospitals in the region. In total, there are 21 people hospitalized in five cities in the north of the state.
The bus took the children home after school.
The government of Paraná declared three days of official mourning. “May God comfort the families of the girls and may the others soon recover from this accident. The Government of Paraná will do what it can to help these people”, said the acting governor of the state, Darci Piana.
The city hall of Jandaia do Sul also declared three days of official mourning.
The National Federation of Apaes (Fenapaes) expressed regret and sadness for the occurrence and says it is awaiting investigations. “Apae Brasil, on behalf of the entire Apae movement, expresses its full solidarity with the families and friends of the victims and the people involved, and awaits the authorities to investigate the causes of the serious and fatal accident”, says the released note.
