Two US Air Force B-2 Spirit heavy strategic bombers from Missouri have teamed up in the Azores with two other US B-1B Lancer aircraft now based in Norway. This was reported by the press service of the US Air Force Command in Europe and Africa.
The aircraft carried out a mission in the High North and also flew through Greenland, Iceland and the United Kingdom.
The Drive writes that the choice of two different types of aircraft for the mission can be regarded as a signal to Russia of the presence of the United States not only in the Arctic, but also in the Baltic Sea, along the northwestern borders of Russia and Eastern Europe.
“All this is happening against the backdrop of the US Air Force’s Arctic strategy, unveiled last summer and aimed at strengthening its presence in the High North to counter what is considered a growing Russian threat in the region,” the newspaper notes.
