Two agents of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) were killed during patrol, on the morning of this Wednesday (18), on BR-116, near Fortaleza, Ceará.
The Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) reported that teams from the Ceará Security Forces were called to respond to an incident recorded near the Oliveira Paiva viaduct, in the Cidade dos Trabalhadores neighborhood, in the Southeast of the state capital.
According to the secretariat, the information gathered at the scene indicates that the two police officers were patrolling the BR-116, when they went to remove a man in a street situation who was transiting between the cars in the middle of the road. After being approached, the suspect allegedly took the gun from one of the police officers and fired shots at the agents. The victims succumbed to their injuries and died on the spot.
The secretary also reported that during the action, a military police officer, who was off duty and was passing by, shot the suspect, who also died. A team from the Military Police of Ceará (PMCE) recovered the weapons from the road agents.
Teams from the Civil and Military Police of Ceará, the Integrated Coordination of Air Operations (Ciopaer) of the SSPDS and the Forensic Expertise (Pefoce) are on site. The investigation of the case will be carried out by the Federal Police (PF).
In a statement, the Federal Police said that it has been working on the investigation since the occurrence was reported. Teams were moved to the crime scene for investigative and technical-scientific work, which will serve as a basis for the police investigation. According to the PF, the result of the investigation will be forwarded to the Federal Court.
