Two large tankers have caught fire off Singapore and two crew members have been rescued, authorities in the Asian city-state said. The fire broke out on the Singapore-flagged tanker Hafnia Nile and another vessel, the Sao Tome and Principe-flagged Ceres I, about 55 kilometers northeast of Pentra Branca, according to the Maritime and Ports Authority of Singapore (MPA). The MPA “requested passing vessels to join the search and rescue operation,” the authority said in a press release, adding that the frigate RSS Supreme and a military helicopter provided assistance. The two crew members were taken to a general hospital in Singapore, a separate air force statement said, without elaborating on their condition. Singapore’s navy uploaded photos to Facebook showing thick smoke billowing from the burning ships and crew members aboard the frigate RSS Supreme. Source: RES
