Two million people have not even taken a dose of the Covid vaccine in RJ

About two million residents of the state of Rio de Janeiro, over the age of five, have not received any dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.

The data is from a survey released by the State Department of Health (SES) this Thursday (23): the work also highlights that another 1.5 million people received the first dose, but did not return for the application of the second, that would complete the first stage of the vaccination schedule.

The State Secretary of Health, Alexandre Chieppe, also highlights that another six million people have not yet received the booster dose.

The doctor reiterates the importance of the immunization campaign to reduce contagion and for the fall in hospital occupancy rates.

“The main way to avoid hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 is vaccination. Studies show that, since the beginning of the campaign, there has been a significant reduction in the severe forms of Covid. Therefore, we appeal to the population to seek the health centers to receive the immunizing agent as soon as possible”, says Chieppe.

The survey conducted in the folder used data entered until June 21 (Tuesday) in the Information System of the National Immunization Program (SI-PNI).

The secretariat points out that, between June 9 and 10, there were 56 patients hospitalized with Covid-19.

In this condition, there were 36 in intensive care units and 20 in wards. Of the total, only 41% had the first stage of the complete vaccination schedule and a booster dose.

The agency also highlighted that comorbidities continue to be key factors for the disease to evolve into more serious forms. Most of the inmates were elderly.

The state informed that it has guided the municipal health departments to adopt an active search for non-vaccinated people and to adopt extramural vaccination: when professionals leave health units and application posts, to vaccinate people who are unable to go to a place of attendance.
