At least two Palestinians were killed this morning in an Israeli army raid in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
The two Palestinians, aged 17 and 23, were killed “by Israeli occupation forces who raided the Jenin area,” the ministry added.
Other officials said other Palestinians were seriously injured.
Israeli forces have been stepping up their operations in the West Bank since Wednesday, following an attack on Tuesday night that killed five people in Bnei Brak, a suburb of Tel Aviv. The perpetrator was a young Palestinian from Yabad, a village near Jenin.
The Israeli army has confirmed that soldiers and members of the border guards “carried out an operation” this morning in an area of Jenin to arrest “suspects”.
“During this operation, armed Palestinians opened fire on the soldiers who responded by opening fire,” the army said, adding that one soldier was slightly injured and taken to hospital.
