Two people died this Friday afternoon (29), after two boats collided on the island of Boipeba, a tourist destination in the lower south of Bahia.
A CNN , the Civil Police said that the victims had no formal identification. However, witnesses reported that the dead were a man and a woman with Argentine nationality.
Initially, a woman went missing, but was located after being rescued. She is hospitalized in the city of Santo Antônio de Jesus. There are no details on the number of injuries, but other people suffered bruises, including a sailor.
The driver of one of the boats showed signs of drunkenness and was arrested red-handed. He was taken to the Cairu Territorial Police Station, where he is at the disposal of the courts.
The Bahia Port Authority (CPBA) informed, in a note, that the accident was recorded at around 3:30 pm, that it sent military personnel to the scene to investigate what happened and that it will launch an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
Operation Summer
The Brazilian Navy (MB) stated that Operation Verão began on December 15th and will be carried out until the month of February along the entire Brazilian coast. Through the Port Authority, Waterway Traffic Inspection Actions (AFTA) were intensified in the region of the island of Boipeba, where the accident occurred, including in Morro de São Paulo, and Valença, located in the Cairu Archipelago.
To date, in the context of Operation Verão in Bahia, 2,906 vessels have been approached, with 85 notifications issued, 12 seizures and 181 alcohol tests carried out.
