Two inmates at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in Brasília, escaped after being released to work.
Edson Felipe de Souza Campos, aged 21, and Alex Basti da Câmara Mendes, aged 24, are serving a semi-open regime and had the benefit, granted by the Court, to leave the prison unit – without an escort – at the Farm of the Foundation for the Support of Imprisoned Workers (FUNAP) during the day and return to the prison at night.
According to the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat of the Federal District, the two escaped along the way when they were released at around 8am on Wednesday (10).
Seap stated that both are remunerated and have the benefit of a reduction of one day less in sentence for three days worked. Detainees are placed in the Internment and Reeducation Center (CIR).
Criminal Police recapture teams are spread across the DF carrying out searches. Alex Basti was already recaptured late yesterday in Ceilândia, 50 km away from Papuda. Edson remains at large.
According to Seap, an internal procedure was opened to investigate the case and those in custody may lose the benefit of external work and redeemed days.
Any information about the whereabouts of fugitives from the penitentiary system can be passed on to the DF Penal Police, by telephone (61) 99666-6000, to the PMDF on 190 and to the PCDF on 197. The report can be made anonymously.
