Two women gave birth to each other’s child due to a medical error

Two couples in California gave birth to each other’s baby after an unprecedented mistake in a fertility clinic. They spent months raising each child thinking it was their own, before realizing what had happened and exchanging it, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles last Monday (8/11).

THE Daphne Cardinale she stressed that she and her husband Alexander, had suspicions that the baby girl that the woman gave birth to at the end of 2019 was not their own child, as she did not look like them in characteristics. However, he dispelled the doubts and as he loved the baby very much and trusted the procedure that took place in the clinic and the doctors. Months later she learned that she was pregnant with the child of another couple who used the services of the same clinic.

“I felt fear, betrayal and anger”, he stated and continued: “I was robbed of the opportunity to conceive my child. “I did not have the opportunity to develop a bond with her during pregnancy, to feel her kick.”

The family Cardinal, now, blames California Reproductive Health Center (CCRH) based in Los Angeles and its owner, Dr. Eliran Mor, for medical error as well as breach of contract terms, negligence and fraud. He demands a lawsuit and seeks compensation, the amount of which remains unknown.

The other two parents involved in the case wish to remain anonymous while planning a similar lawsuit in the coming days, according to the lawyer. Adam Wolf, who represents all four parents.

According to the lawsuit, the CCRH accidentally implanted the other couple’s fetus in Daphne and respectively to the other woman, implanted her own fetus. The babies, both girls, were born one week apart in September 2019. Both couples inadvertently raised the wrong child for almost three months before the exams. DNA confirm that the embryos have changed, according to the lawsuit.

“The Cardinale family, including their other young daughter, loved the child and feared it would be taken from them,” the lawsuit states. “All this time, Alexander and Daphne did not know where their fetus was, and so they were terrified at the idea that another woman was pregnant with their child and that their child was somewhere out in the world without them.” The babies changed and went to their biological parents in January 2020.
