Typhoons wreak havoc, injure at least 75 in Asia

Super Typhoon Saola wreaked havoc in Hong Kong on Saturday. Winds reached more than 200 kilometers per hour and at least 75 people were injured.

During the passage of the super typhoon, trees fell, cars were damaged and roads flooded with water. Hundreds of flights were canceled and schools closed.

The phenomenon is already considered the strongest to hit the Hong Kong region in more than 70 years.

Now, the super typhoon is advancing through southeast China and, therefore, authorities said that the storm warning remains until at least this Sunday (3).

Taiwan on alert

Still in Asia, residents of Taiwan are already preparing for the arrival of another typhoon. After flights were cancelled, the government warned the population to stay away from beaches and mountainous areas.

Farmers anticipated harvests fearing that crops would be ruined. Meanwhile, on the coast, fishermen tied up their boats in harbors after a marine alert was issued.

Firefighters have isolated risk areas and patrol the beaches in an attempt to keep people away. The forecast by the weather authorities is for heavy rains across the island from this Sunday.
