Typical schemes of theft of cryptocurrency were revealed in Russia

Judge of the Supreme Court Evgeny Rudakov spoke about typical schemes of theft of cryptocurrency, reports RBC Crypto. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Law Forum (PMUF), Rudakov said that most crimes with cryptocurrencies in Russia are committed through deception.

Most often, cryptocurrency is stolen under the guise of metabolic or investment services. Cases of the forcible seizures of assets are also recorded, up to the abduction of the owners with subsequent forcing to transfer access to wallets.

Cases of encroachment on the cryptocurrency of citizens, according to Rudakov, were considered in different regions. Such actions were qualified by courts, as a rule, according to the norms of the Criminal Code, providing for liability for crimes against property, the report said.

In recent years, the courts examined more than 20 criminal cases of crimes related to an encroachment on the digital currency belonging to citizens. Over the past two years, the Moscow courts examined seven such cases, four in the suburbs.

Cryptocurrency, according to the judge, also often appears in cases of drug trafficking. In these cases, digital assets are subject to arrest and subsequent confiscation.

Also, at the forum, the deputy head of the Ministry of Justice Vadim Fedorov said that the department prepared a bill that directly attributes the digital currency to the property subject to arrest and confiscation. The investigator will be able to withdraw “material carriers with access codes” or request a “ban on surgery” with cryptocurrency from the court.

According to Fedorov, it is planned to attract specialists to such actions who will help determine the necessary measures to preserve assets. The bill has already been submitted to the State Duma and is preparing for the first reading.

The fact that the bill was prepared in mid -March was reported by the chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin. For many years, the UK sought these norms for many years, explaining this by the fact that it is difficult to effectively counteract illegal operations with digital assets.

The increase in the number of physical attacks on cryptocurrency owners is also recorded in other countries. Since the beginning of this year, more than 20 incidents using violence are already known.
