Ubatuba will charge tourist fees from June onwards for environmental preservation

The Municipality of Ubatuba informed that, as of June, it will charge a fee to tourists who visit the city to finance environmental preservation.

According to the Municipal Environment Department, the “Environmental Preservation Fee” (TPA) will be charged “from motor vehicles that enter the municipality and due to their permanence, through a remote collection and collection system”.

The amounts that will be charged can vary from R$ 3.50 to R$ 92. The collection tests will begin in June, according to the Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Guilherme Adolpho.

“The objective is to raise funds to invest in the mitigation and compensation of the socio-environmental impacts generated by the large flow of people who visit Ubatuba”, said the city hall.

Environmental tax of tourists in Ubatuba:

  • Motorcycles: BRL 3.50

  • Small vehicles: BRL 13

  • Utility vehicles (trucks and vans): BRL 19.50

  • Excursion vehicles (vans): R$ 39 + Comtur fee (Ubatuba Municipal Tourism Company)

  • Minibuses and trucks: R$ 59 + Comtur fee

  • Bus: R$ 92 + Comtur fee

The City Hall points out that a number of vehicles may be exempt from the fee, as in the case of those who are passing quickly through the city, with a period of less than four hours. The information and the fee waiver request form must be made in this website.

Vehicles exempt from the environmental fee:

  • Ambulances, official vehicles, armored cars and hearses duly registered in the municipality;
  • Vehicles providing services or supplying local commerce, duly registered in the municipality;
  • Vehicles owned by concessionaires of electricity, fixed and mobile telephony, basic sanitation and public transport services, previously registered in the municipality;
  • Small vehicles of people who are proven to work, exercise a profession or provide services in a non-occasional way in the municipality, provided that they are previously registered;
  • Vehicles owned by those who prove residency in the municipality of Ubatuba, previously registered in the municipality;
  • Vehicles in the name of property owners or spouses, children and parents of owners, with the registration of a maximum of two vehicles being allowed for each property;
  • Public transport vehicles that transport workers from other municipalities, and loads to supply the municipality’s commerce and service providers, previously registered upon presentation of the service provision contract and/or sales invoice;
  • Vehicles licensed in the municipalities of Ilhabela, São Sebastião, Caraguatatuba, Paraty, Cunha, São Luiz do Paraitinga and Natividade da Serra;
  • Vehicles that enter the municipality with the purpose of quick passage, with a period of less than 04 (four) hours.
  • Other vehicles that the Permanent Discussion and Deliberation Committee of the TPA may decide upon as possible for inclusion.
