IT Taxi, the largest Taxi Association in Italy, and Uber have reached a strategic partnership to digitize the taxi sector and make on-demand transportation available to millions of Italians.

Following the pandemic and reduced demand for jobs, taxi drivers will now be able to access new customers on demand, increasing usage and profit opportunities through the Uber app.

By leveraging the demand created by Uber, the partnership will help reduce the number of miles traveled by passenger taxis in cities as well as congestion.

As thousands more drivers become available in the app, passengers will see reduced waiting times, with users having a more reliable way to travel on demand in dozens of Italian cities.

The agreement will significantly expand Uber’s presence in one of Europe’s largest economies, bringing applications to more than 80 new cities and significantly expanding its operations to existing cities such as Rome, Milan, Turin and Bologna. With more than 6 million domestic and foreign users launching the Uber app in 2021, there is clearly a huge demand for app-based travel from Italians and tourists alike.

The cooperation will be launched in June 2022.
