Uber and 99 motorcycle taxis only operate outside the expanded center of SP; understand

After company 99 started the motorcycle service via app in the city of São Paulo, Uber announced this Wednesday (22) that it will resume the operation of Uber Moto in the capital of São Paulo.

In a note, Uber informed that, initially, it intends to offer the service outside the expanded center, that is, on the roads that delimit the so-called Minianel Viário, formed by: Tietê and Pinheiros marginals, Bandeirantes and Afonso D’Escragnole Taunay avenues, Complexo Viário Maria Maluf, avenues Tancredo Neves and Juntas Provisórias, Viaduto Grande São Paulo and avenues Professor Luís Inácio de Anhaia Melo and Salim Farah Maluf.

According to the company, the measure was adopted to “analyze demand and use”.

“Uber Moto is a mobility alternative that is present from North to South of Brazil and has established itself as an alternative especially where public transport is less present, mainly in peripheral regions of cities, with prices on average 40% lower than UberX”, explained Laura Lequain, head of Uber Moto in Brazil.

On the other hand, 99, which last Monday (20) had a request to suspend the seizures of motorcycles used for travel via app by the São Paulo Court of Justice, also operates outside the expanded center of São Paulo.

According to the company, the modality has been used mainly by residents of the outskirts. The neighborhoods with the greatest displacement in this initial period were: Capão Redondo, Itaquera, Tucuruvi, Jabaquara, Tatuapé, Itaim Paulista, Santana, Santo Amaro, Vila Sônia and Grajaú

Mayor Ricardo Nunes even classified the motorcycle taxi service as “carnage”.

“I will instruct an inspection and all motorcycles that are registered to do this type of service will be stopped. We will not allow this company to come here and bring carnage,” said Nunes.
