Uber CEO: “We will definitely start accepting cryptocurrencies”

The CEO of Uber, a taxi and chauffeur service provider, said that at some point the firm will “definitely” accept cryptocurrencies to pay for rides.

During an interview with Bloomberg, Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that taxi, car sharing and delivery services continue to develop. And with the development of the field of cryptocurrencies, companies will need to accept these assets to pay for trips.

“It’s definitely possible. We see that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are more suitable as a store of value. The exchange process is quite expensive, and cryptocurrencies are not very good for the environment. But as the commissions decrease, as the impact on nature decreases, we will be more and more inclined to work with cryptocurrencies. We are watching them closely. Are you asking if we will accept cryptocurrencies in the future? Undoubtedly. At some point. Not now, but we will definitely,” Khosrowshahi said.

The CEO of Uber has previously said that the company is considering using cryptocurrencies. Especially if the users of the application will have a demand and need to pay for trips using digital assets.

Recall that in 2016, Uber’s servers were hacked and hackers managed to steal the data of 57 million users of the application. At the initiative of the former Uber security chief, the hackers were paid $100,000 in BTC, and the fact of the hack was covered up.
