Uber launches BRL 100 million aid for drivers due to high fuel prices

THE Uber announced on Friday (11) that it will launch a package of measures aimed at partner drivers of the company in Brazil with the aim of mitigating the additional costs generated by the new high fuels implemented by Petrobras.

Total investments with the plan reach around R$ 100 million, and they will be carried out over the next few weeks.

The initiatives involve increasing earnings and reducing costs, as well as a temporary adjustment in the price of travel through the app.

The temporary rise in travel will be 6.5%, and will begin to be applied next week. Users will be able to see the available modes of transport and the price of each one in the app before requesting the trip.

The fuel readjustment announced by Petrobras was the 13th in a year, and the readjustment amount was the biggest so far. THE Gasoline rose 18.7%, while the S-10 diesel advanced 24.9%.

The measure is not exclusive to Brazil, according to Uber, and is linked to the effects of the war between Ukraine and Russiawith the price of Petroleum reaching record levels and hovering around $110 a barrel.

The company launched a global initiative aimed at drivers due to “the instability on the international scene caused by the conflict in Eastern Europe, which has put pressure on input costs around the world, particularly fuel”.

Silvia Penna, managing director of Uber in Brazil, said: “Drivers are among the first to feel the impact of record fuel prices, so we are implementing these initiatives to help them.

“We hope that these emergency actions will help to reduce day-to-day impacts, but we will continue to listen to our partners, especially at this time.”

Uber said it will continue to monitor market conditions in the coming weeks to reassess current initiatives.
