Ubisoft is creating a new part of Assassin’s Creed: with stealth, but without an open world

Yesterday, February 9, the Bloomberg news outlet, citing its sources, reported that Ubisoft is actively working to reformat the addition to the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla game into a separate full-fledged part of the famous franchise. This means that the content, which was originally developed as DLC for the latest part of the series at the moment, should eventually be released in the format of a separate stealth video game, which also lost the open world. The decision is rather strange even for Ubisoft, but journalists from Bloomberg found a completely logical explanation for this – the fact is that the company has nothing to release in the foreseeable future.

Accordingly, the developers from Ubisoft were given the task of repurposing the add-on into a full-fledged separate release in order to fill the void in the company’s new product schedule for the next year – the project should be released either this year or in 2023. Theoretically, the new game, which is currently being created under the code name Rift, should go to release before the launch of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, an online service in the spirit of GTA Online, which is supposed to link all parts of the franchise into a single project with many activities and, of course, in-app purchases. . At the same time, other projects of the company, to put it mildly, have problems that do not allow them to get to the launch.

For example, Beyond Good and Evil 2, which was last shown in 2018, according to insiders, is dying in production hell, and the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, after a lot of negative reviews at the production stage, was decided to be postponed for an indefinite term. The company does not yet have any other major releases in the near future – the latest parts of Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed or The Crew may already be in development, but they are very far from release. Because of this, Ubisoft has to go to extreme lengths by releasing DLC as a standalone AAA game based on the popular franchise.
